Wairakei Estate and Pāmu win two awards at the Ballance Farm Environment Awards

Our passionate team are proud to have taken out the Waikato Regional Council Water Protection and Waikato River Authority Catchment Improvement Awards at the Ballance Farm Environment Awards in March.

2024 Waikato Finalists: Robin Gerding, Damien Watson and Chris Tidey of Renown Pāmu, Wairakei Pastoral – Dairy

Wairakei Estate and Pāmu are proud to have won two awards at the Ballance Farm Environment Awards earlier this year:

  1. The Waikato Regional Council Water Protection Award which recognises the excellent knowledge and effort of riparian management. This award highlights our multi-exotic species soil conservation plantings (some are for harvest and carbon credits, some are permanent for aesthetics) and established native wetland and riparian plantings.
  2. The Waikato River Authority Catchment Improvement Award which confirms we have a well rounded approach to the current farm system and are actively working to reduce environmental effects to sensitive receiving environments. We also continue to contribute to Te Ture Whaimana and the health and well-being of the Waikato River and its tributaries with ongoing land management decisions and the mosaic of land use on Renown Farm.

The Ballance Farm Awards celebrate farmer and grower achievement and showcase good practice, enabling the sharing of positive farming and growing stories with all audiences. Being recognised in these awards is incredibly meaningful to our passionate team who look after the conservation area and waterways and we are thrilled to continue to see this farm thrive.

We are still propagating seedlings (mainly tree fuchsia, totara, matai and kahikatea) to introduce under the existing tree and shrub layer in the wetlands and biodiversity corridors on Renown Farm.
